Therapy for Adults
Being a ‘grownup’ with a job, studies, partner, kids…. can be overwhelming.
Therapy can be a critical support. Let’s work together to get you on track!
I can’t promise to solve problems or make difficult feelings disappear. I promise to listen carefully and provide honest feedback. Some topics I address include:
Managing overwhelm, worry, and stress
Understanding patterns of self-criticism and doubt
Noticing obsessive thoughts and changing compulsive behaviors
Moving beyond traumatic experiences
Effectively parenting children of different ages
Navigating parenthood decisions, pregnancy loss, infertility, perinatal mood and depression problems
Stengthening relationships to meet physical and emotional needs
Successfully making life changes - even when you may not have asked for them
Supporting grief and loss
Honestly assessing one’s relationship to alcohol and other substances
I utilize the following types of evidence-based therapy to address common concerns and mental health conditions.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Motivational Interviewing
Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT)
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP)
Teens
I provide counseling to teens as they move through this important stage of life. There are a lot of reasons more than half of adolescents report significant symptoms of anxiety and depression these days. Having the right support is important.
Common topics include:
Tactics to manage overwhelming emotions and stress related to school, friends and family
Skills to make friends and deal with anxiety in social settings
Exploring body image, gender and sexual identity
Sharing worries about the future, including environmental and political issues
Making choices about alcohol and substance use
Immigration Evaluations
An objective mental health evaluation documents current and past mental health history and can provide important evidence in immigration cases. I provide these evaluations for the following types of immigration cases: asylum, U-visa, T-visa, and petitions for extreme hardship waivers.
I have twenty years of professional experience working with immigrants in the United States and have completed over 100 evaluations for immigration cases. I have also served as a trainer for Physicians for Human Rights.
I conduct evaluations in Spanish, French and English with no translator. I complete evaluations for individuals who speak other languages if they are able to provide a translator.
I have evaluated clients who have experienced a range of trauma including domestic violence, political persecution and torture, female genital mutilation, gang persecution, childhood trauma, and victims of crime.
Fees
$750 per evaluation
$850 for expedited evaluation (less than two weeks to complete the report)
$200 per hour scheduled for court testimony
Payment is required before the final report is provided to the attorney. Payment may be made by credit/debit or cash. I encourage clients who need pro bono evaluations to have their attorney make a request via Physicians For Human Rights Asylum Program.
