Therapy for Adults

Being a ‘grownup’ with a job, studies, partner, kids - can be overwhelming.

I’ve been there myself. Going through the motions, irritable, nervous, worrying, exhausted, avoiding things you used to like. Therapy can be a critical support that can help you get back on track.

I rely on evidence based training to address common mental health conditionts. This includes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) , Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Positive Psychology and Motivational Interviewing. I can’t promise to solve problems or make difficult feelings disappear. But I promise to be an active team member, to listen carefully, and provide honest feedback. Common topics include:

  • Tactics to manage overwhelm, worry, stress

  • How to accept or change patterns of self-criticism and doubt

  • Moving beyond traumatic events that continue to affect you

  • Effective parenting for children of different ages, including post-partum mood problems, adjusting to pregnancy and a new baby

  • Reflecting on relationships, physical and emotional intimacy needs

  • Successfully making life changes, including different types of grief and loss

  • Taking a look at your relationship to alcohol and other substances

Teens & Parents of Teens

I provide counseling to teens and their parents to support them as they move through this important stage of life. I’ve heard many teens say things like “It’s just too hard, I don’t feel like going on”, have thoughts of suicide, or harm themselves in some way. Parents benefit from support when these things happen. Teens benefit from confidential therapy where they are able to learn practical and tangible coping strategies.

Common topics include:

  • Tactics to manage overwhelming emotions and stress related to school, friends, family

  • How to make friends, have relationships, and deal with social anxiety

  • Using social media in a healthy way

  • Exploring thoughts and ideas related to body image, gender and sexual identity

  • Discussing worries about the planet, injustice and your future.

  • Learning about responsible alcohol and substance use and their effects on your life

Immigration Evaluations

Having an impartial and objective mental health evaluation that documents current and past mental health history can provide evidence in immigration cases. These evaluations may be used as evidence in the following types of cases: asylum, U-visa, T-visa, and petitions for extreme hardship waivers.

I have twenty years of experience working with immigrants in the United States and have completed over 100 evaluations for immigration cases. I have also served as a trainer for Physicians for Human Rights, Inc.

I conduct evaluations in Spanish, French and English with no translator. I complete evaluations for individuals who speak other languages if they are able to provide a translator.

I have evaluated clients who have experienced a range of trauma including domestic violence, political persecution and torture, female genital mutilation, gang persecution, childhood trauma, and victims of crime.
